Mr. Vodola has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, with a specialization in investments in Emerging Markets (EM) sovereign and corporate debt. Throughout his career as an expert in EM debt and capital markets more broadly, Mr. Vodola has provided advice to companies, multilateral institutions, creditors, government ministries, debt management offices, and central bankers on debt restructurings, liability-management exercises, climate finance transactions, and general financings. As an investor, he has invested billions of dollars in the debt of sovereigns and corporates across the globe. He has traveled extensively on investment due diligence trips and maintains close relationships with key stakeholders in many EM countries, institutional investors in the space, and multilateral agencies.
In the advisory context, Mr. Vodola has incorporated his practitioner’s knowledge and expertise in capital markets and structuring of investment instruments to design creative transactions for companies as well as those with climate and social outcomes for clients including governments, NGOs, and multilateral agencies. These structures include debt-for-nature swaps and credit-enhanced instruments with performance linked to climate and nature. In the corporate space, Mr. Vodola has recently completed work on a large out-of-court debt restructuring in South America as well as advisor to a commercial creditor committee engaged in a debt restructuring in Africa. He is currently advising a number of corporate, sovereign, NGO, and SOE clients on capital markets, restructuring, and climate finance options at Windham Advisory.
Prior to moving to the advisory space, Mr. Vodola was at Citadel, a $60bn AUM multi-strategy hedge fund, from 2018 until 2021, where he helped launch the fund’s first Emerging Markets Credit pod and was responsible for sovereign and corporate debt across global EM, focusing on high yield, stressed, and distressed situations and restructurings. Prior to joining Citadel in 2018, he was an Investment Analyst at Brigade Capital, a $30bn AUM global investment management firm specializing in credit investment strategies, for nine years, focusing on investments in stressed and distressed situations in EM sovereign and corporate debt as well as US companies in a number of consumer-facing industries. Additionally, Mr. Vodola worked in capital markets roles at Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs among other financial institutions. Throughout his career, Mr. Vodola has been particularly focused on stressed and distressed debt situations and has participated in most of the recent sovereign debt restructurings, including holding key steering committee roles.
Mr. Vodola holds an MA in International Political Economy and Development from Fordham University and received a BA in Political Science & History, magna cum laude, from Drew University. Mr. Vodola also holds certifications in Debt Sustainability Analysis & Financial Programming from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
